I don't understand it because of the economy. The economy also has an affect on the programs and the tournaments that support the programs. I stood in our parking lot this fall and told one of my soccer player's parents that they could not take their drink into the park for the game after he mentioned the economy and it was cheaper to buy a soda up the street.

I know it is hard to afford wrestling, but I have a single mother of 4 that covered it last year for all of her kids, and she paid in the fall for their registration in payments. She also paid for all of them for the rest of the season for at least 10 tournaments 3 weeks ago.

Here is my cheap plug. The ABC tournament is only $10 again this year on Jan 23. I hope to see you there.

If they left it at home too bad or forgot too bad they should not be able to coach unless it is present with them at that time. but it should be enforced alot more at local tournaments and it is not. If a kid shows up with no head gear the refs won't let them wrestle so if no coaches card present no coaching seems only fair if we are setting examples for are kids. Please refs and tourn dir please enforce a little harder.

swm,

I agree too,but with what these people are doing it's hard to tell who's who.

I hate typing...

I think a simple way to address it is at the gate you have a coach/wrestler entrance only. Wrestlers are already verified but coaches have to show a card and copper card to get the free admission. Wristbands work too, but there is a cost associated with that (however small). This way the card is verified. At the excelsior springs tourney a few weeks ago, I had to show my USAW card, copper card, and photo ID to get a wrist band. Took very little time, and was a great way to handle it. I overheard several coaches referring to the "Card Nazi" stating that he was scrutinizing them. Good for Excelsior Springs. And the Head coaches and Boards of the clubs need to be aware that if someone who cant pass a background check is coaching that opens the club up to ALL kinds of liabilities. Plus, if im not mistaken, USAW insurance won't be in force if a non-sanctioned coach is matside and that individual coaching and the club itself is open to liabilities (probably by the opponent, as it is more than likely that the non sanctioned coach is a dad)

The only club to really push the card issue was Ozark. They had two or three people patrolling mat side and checking cards. They accepted no excuses and sent people back to the stands. It made a huge difference out there.I could actually coach with out having to shout above some kids mom screaming "GRAB HIM, GRAB HIM, DO SOMETHING!!!!!"."

Currently the coaches cards are most important for the background checks and removing coaches who have shown less than adult like actions at tournaments. The real problem is with teams who dont enforce it. Also some tournaments dont have the facility to enforce it (ie upper decks to keep spectators away from the mats). I believe that those hosting tournaments should be able to penalize teams financially for not keeping their parents, wrestlers and coaches in line. The economy is no excuse to skirt the safety of participants in the tournaments. Officials can't be expected to make good calls when there is caous on the side of mats. The cards should have a specific color for each year like renewal stickers on license plates do. They should be mailed not printed on line. The copper and other cards should be printed with names on them not sent blank for anyone to have and use. USA Wrestling needs to step up and provide the services their fees reflect. Lets all do it the right way the first time and every time. Its for the kids after all. We need uniform guidelines, proceedures and rules for all and we should follow them without exception. I have come to understand that seeding of districts used a drawing of names. What kind of crap is this if a record was presented that wreslter should be seeded if they didnt submit a record they get placed by a drawing. All byes are seeded to top seeds in order of seeding top to bottom u dont draw for byes. I realize most of the people involved in organizing the Missouri USA Wrestling are volunteers but that does justify taking the easy way through difficult processess. If your not up to the task don't volunteer. USA Wrestling receives enough money from participants that they can afford to hire someone to do it right. Thats just my thought on the subject. PS add a spell check to the forum so I don't have to think so hard. Just kidding. Good Luck To All Wrestlers Next Weekend
